New Delhi: Today’s Google Doodle PC marks the 125th birth anniversary of Mahalanabis, Guru as the inventor of India’s planned economy model, statistician and ‘Mahalanobis distance’.  Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis

Mahanvans graduated in 1912 with a degree in science from the presidency in physics with a degree in science. After that, he left for England in 1913 and left for joining the University of London. Upon his arrival in England, he decided to enrol in Cambridge, instead, the king went to the college there. During the latter part of Cambridge, he talked with Srinivasa Ramanujan’s mathematical talent.


After graduating from Cambridge, Mahalanobis worked with CTR Wilson in the Cavendish Laboratory. During that time, the theoretical statistics magazine was introduced for ‘Biometrika’. In 1932, Mahalanobis and fellow statistics enthusiasts established Indian Statistical Institute. In 1959, the Institute was declared the Institute of National Importance and Deemed University. Their most important contributions are largely related to sample surveys. He started the concept of pilot surveys and advocated the use of sampling methods. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis


Mahalanobis was a member of the Planning Commission and started with another such scheme, prominently contributed to the Five Year Plans of the newly independent India. His “Mahalanobis Model” was employed in the Second Five Year Plan, which worked towards the rapid industrialization of India and along with other colleagues of his organization, he played an important role in the development of statistical infrastructure.
